Who is Cosy Octopus available to?
You need a heat pump, electric boiler, or electric radiators as your primary heating - plus a smart meter. It doesn't need to have been installed by Octopus. If Busy Energy installed your heat pump, you're fully eligible. Rates vary by region - check current rates at octopus.energy.

Can I switch to Octopus if I don't have a heat pump?

What's the Boiler Upgrade Scheme and how do I apply?
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme is a government grant of up to £7,500 towards the cost of an air source heat pump installation. Busy Energy apply for it on your behalf as your MCS-accredited installer - the £7,500 is deducted directly from your installation quote. You never see the paperwork. To be eligible you need to be a homeowner in England or Wales. Contact us for a free eligibility check.
I'm on oil heating - can I still switch fuels and get the grant?
Yes - and you may qualify for additional support. Homes currently on oil, LPG, or other non-gas heating are fully eligible for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme and Octopus Energy specifically supports the route from oil to heat pump. Contact Busy Energy for a free assessment.
What smart meter do I need for Cosy Octopus?
You need a second-generation (SMETS2) smart meter operating in smart mode - meaning it's sending half-hourly readings to Octopus. Most meters installed since 2019 are SMETS2. Octopus will confirm compatibility when you sign up. If you don't have one, Octopus can arrange installation.
Can I get Cosy Octopus if my heat pump wasn't installed by Busy Energy?
Yes - Cosy Octopus is available to any customer with a qualifying heat pump, regardless of who installed it. You just need a compatible smart meter. However, if you want advice on whether your system is set up to get the most from the Cosy tariff, Busy Energy can assess and optimise it for you.
How long does the switch to Octopus take?
Typically 2–3 weeks from the date you sign up. Octopus manage the entire process - you don't need to contact your old supplier. Your energy supply is never interrupted at any point during the switch.
What's the difference between Trusted Partner and Cosy Accredited Installer?
Octopus Trusted Partner is Octopus Energy's general accreditation for approved installation businesses. Cosy Accredited Installer is a specific additional accreditation for installers whose heat pump installations meet the standards required for customers to get the best from the Cosy Octopus tariff. Busy Energy holds both.
