Local heat pump and air con installers, right here in Leeds
We're Busy Energy, and we fit air source heat pumps and air conditioning across Leeds and the surrounding villages. Not a national call centre. A local team, working on streets you know, fitting systems we'd happily put in our own parents' homes.
Whether you want to stop overpaying to heat your home, keep it comfortable through the summer, or both, we'll talk you through your options in plain English. We'll tell you honestly what suits your house, and we'll never push you into anything.
No jargon. No hard sell. Just proper advice from people who do this every week.
Heat pumps and air conditioning: two sides of the same idea
It's worth a quick word on how these fit together, because it confuses a lot of people.
Both run on the same simple, efficient technology: an air source system that moves heat rather than burning fuel to make it. The difference is just what they do with it.
-
Air source heat pumps (air to water) take heat from the outside air and use it to warm your radiators and hot water. This is the main way to heat a whole home, and it's what the government grant supports.
-
Air conditioning (air to air) moves heat through the air instead. It cools rooms in summer, and most modern units also heat them in winter, which makes them a flexible option for a conservatory, a home office, a bedroom that's always too warm or too cold, or a room you can't easily reach with radiators.
The two work beautifully alongside each other. The whole country is moving this way, and it's a sensible direction: clean, efficient, and a long way from an old fossil-fuel boiler. We fit both, and we'll help you work out the right mix for your home.
Why Leeds homeowners choose Busy Energy
You're making a big decision about your home, probably one you only want to make once. Here's why people round here trust us with it:
-
We're local. Fitting heat pumps and air conditioning across Leeds and the surrounding area. You'll deal with a real person, not a faceless company three counties away.
-
We're accredited, and we can prove it. MCS certified, an Octopus Trusted Partner, TrustMark registered, F-Gas qualified and CIPHE members. The badges that matter for a job like this.
-
We explain everything first. We'll show you exactly how a system would work in your home before you commit to anything. If something isn't right for you yet, we'll tell you.
-
We handle the grant for you. On heat pump installs, the government's Boiler Upgrade Scheme knocks £7,500 off the cost. We apply on your behalf and take it straight off your quote.
-
We're the safe pair of hands. Not the cheapest quote you'll get, and we don't pretend to be. We're the team you call when you want it done right and left alone for years. Just read our impressive 5* Google reviews - Thomas said "Adrian literally will do everything in his power to fix your heating issues, he will present you with the best options and will happily explain these to you. He is genuinely a great bloke who even now still checks in to make sure everything is still on point and the only word I can use to describe him is a “legend”."
Do heat pumps actually work in a Yorkshire winter?
It's the question we get asked more than any other, so let's deal with it head on.
Yes. They do.
Heat pumps run perfectly well in sub-zero temperatures. They're the standard way of heating homes across Scandinavia, where the winters are a good deal harder than anything Leeds throws at us. A properly sized, properly fitted heat pump will keep your home warm right through the coldest months.
The key words there are "properly sized and properly fitted." A heat pump that's been rushed or guessed at won't perform. One that's been designed around your actual home will. That's the part we take seriously, and it's the difference between a system you forget about and one you regret.
Comfortable all year round
Here's something more people are realising: Yorkshire summers aren't what they were. A spell of genuinely hot weather now turns a south-facing bedroom or a conservatory into somewhere you can't sleep or work.
A modern air conditioning unit sorts that out. It cools the rooms that need it in summer, and because most units also run as heaters, it can take the chill off the same rooms in spring and autumn without firing up the whole central heating system. It's an efficient, quiet way to keep the parts of your home you actually use comfortable, whatever the season.
We'll talk you through whether it makes sense for your home, and which rooms would benefit most. Often it's just one or two, and there's no need to do more than that.
How the installation works
We've kept the whole process simple and stress-free, whether it's a heat pump, air conditioning, or both. Here's how it goes:
-
A free home survey. We come out, look at your home properly, and work out what suits it and what size you'd need. No charge, no obligation.
-
A clear, honest plan. We design a system around your home and explain exactly how it would work, what it would cost, and what your bills might look like afterwards. In plain English.
-
A tidy, careful install. Our team fits everything properly and works cleanly. Most installs are wrapped up in a few days, and we treat your home like it's ours.
-
We test it and talk you through it. Once it's in, we commission the system, make sure it's running as it should, and show you how to use it before we leave.
The £7,500 government grant, explained
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme is a government grant that takes £7,500 off the cost of an air source heat pump (up to £9,000 for oil/LPG switch - read more here). Here's the honest version:
-
It applies to air source heat pumps (the air-to-water systems that heat your whole home), for homes in England, and we apply for it on your behalf.
-
It comes straight off your quote. You don't fill in any forms or wait for a cheque.
-
You no longer need a valid EPC to qualify, so there's one less cost and delay than there used to be.
Worth being straight with you on one point: the grant covers heat pumps, not air conditioning. Air-to-air air conditioning is a separate, usually smaller job and isn't part of the scheme. If you're looking at both, we'll quote them clearly so you can see exactly what the grant does and doesn't cover. No blurred lines.
A few honest answers to common questions:
Will it be a messy, disruptive job?
Less than most people fear. We work cleanly and tidily, and we'll talk you through what to expect before we start. Most installs are done in a few days.
What if my boiler still works fine?
Then you might not need a heat pump yet, and we'll say so. There's no sense replacing a healthy boiler. When it's getting on, or when you're ready to stop pouring money into an old system, that's the time to talk.
Can I have air conditioning fitted on its own, without a heat pump?
Absolutely. Plenty of people start with air con for one or two rooms and look at heating separately later. There's no need to do everything at once.
Does air conditioning heat as well as cool?
Most modern units do both. They cool in summer and warm in the cooler months, which makes them a flexible option for rooms your central heating struggles with.
Will a heat pump save me money?
For most homes, yes, especially if you're coming off oil, LPG or an old gas boiler. We'll show you the actual numbers for your home so you can decide for yourself, rather than asking you to take our word for it.
Future-proof your home, properly
For a lot of the people we work with, this isn't just about this winter's bills. It's about getting the house sorted properly while they can, so it's a home worth handing on rather than a money pit for the kids to deal with later.
A well-fitted heat pump does that. Lower running costs now, a modern heating system that's set up for years to come, and one less thing to worry about down the line. Add air conditioning where it makes sense, and you've got a home that's comfortable in every season, ready for the way heating and cooling are going.
