Thinking about switching to a heat pump but not sure if your home is suitable? You’re not alone. Here at Busy Energy, we get this question all the time from customers across Yorkshire and Lincolnshire. The good news? Most homes can benefit from a heat pump – it’s just about finding the right setup.
Let’s break it down.

🏡 What Makes a Home Suitable?
Insulation matters
If your home is draughty or loses heat quickly, your system will need to work harder. That’s why we often recommend upgrading your insulation – especially in older homes which are common in places like Beverley, Harrogate and Lincoln. Good wall, floor and loft insulation means a heat pump can work efficiently and save you money.
Radiator size
Heat pumps run at lower temperatures than gas boilers, so your radiators might need upgrading to larger ones. This is something we assess during your free home survey.
Garden or outdoor space
Air source heat pumps need space outside – ideally near a wall and with decent airflow. You don’t need a huge garden – even a small yard in places like Hull or Cleethorpes could be suitable.
Existing heating system
We can retrofit heat pumps into most homes, but we’ll look at your current setup – whether you have gas, oil or electric heating – to recommend the smoothest, most cost-effective switch.

We cover everything from urban townhouses to remote cottages in the Wolds. Even heritage or listed properties can work with the right combination of heat pump and insulation strategy – we’ve done it before.
